As the culminating project for the semester, EDC 430 students create a unit plan. The resources we've created so far are listed below. Instructions for starting your unit plan are at the bottom of this page.
Click on "Edit this page" (Located on the top of the page) Why?
In the row with you name, add your grade & subject in the "Course" column.
In the "Topic" column type your unit title.
Highlight the title, go to the "Editor" tool bar and click on the graphic that says "Insert link" when you hold the mouse over it.
This will open a window that has your unit title in the "Link text" box and the "page name" box
If the text in the "page name" box is red you can use it, but if it show up green you need to give the page a different name (a term in relation to your unit would probably work).
Click "ok" and open the new link by clicking your underlined unit title.
On this page scroll through the templates and choose "EDC 430 UNIT PLAN"
From here you can click "Edit this Page" and type information under it's correct heading.
Don't forget to add your two paragraphs you've already written to the "Purpose" section.
The Unit Plan Assignment - Improved
We have been writing unit plans in EDC 430 since I arrived in 2007. Each year, there are some good ones and many more impractical ones. The assignment is a lot of stress for the students as well as the instructor. This year, we're going to try something different. Instead of everyone writing their own unit plan, we will have the option of collaborating on a unit plan that is better and more usable.
The parts of a unit plan do not change. Those are listed above.
The Process
Step 1: Decide on some possible topics.
Step 2: Unpack the necessary GSEs
Step 3: High level planning
Step 4: Detailed lesson plans and Instructional Materials - Divide and Conquer
The Unit Plan Assignment
Students should begin their unit using the template EDC 430 UNIT PLAN. Here is a blank version of this template. As you are working on your plans, please keep the assessment rubric in mind. A blank version of it is linked here.
